The Gaza health ministry reported on Tuesday that the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict has resulted in the deaths of at least 42,344 people. The violence has also spread to Lebanon, where the Lebanese health ministry has recorded at least 1,315 fatalities since Israel intensified its bombing efforts there last month.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday called on world leaders to take decisive action in pressuring Israel to halt its ongoing attacks in Gaza and Lebanon.
Speaking in Johannesburg during a rally marking 100 days in power, Ramaphosa stressed the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and unimpeded humanitarian aid for those suffering in Gaza.

Furthermore, the president announced that in the coming days, his government will present its complete case to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to support the people of Palestine against the ongoing genocide occurring there, particularly in Gaza. He emphasized that his government will persist in its support for the Palestinian people.
South Africa filed its case against Israel at the ICJ in late 2023, accusing the nation of violating the 1948 Genocide Convention. Several countries have joined the case, which has already seen preliminary orders demanding a halt to Israeli offensives.
