A ship with 25,000 tonnes of Russian wheat for Zimbabwe arrived at the Mozambican port of Beira, Russian media reported, citing Representative of the Zimbabwe Grain Marketing Board, Patrick Muzvimbiri. The shipment comes within the framework of Russian President Vladimir Putin's initiative to deliver grain to the African countries most in need free of charge. On August 22, Putin announced that negotiations on gratuitous supplies of 25-50,000 tonnes of grain from Russia to six African countries are in the final stage. Earlier, he said that Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Mali, Somalia, the Central African Republic and Eritrea are among the countries, which will receive the grain. On November 28, the special representative of the Russian President for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said that the implementation of grain supplies to a number of African countries had begun.
