Earlier, Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that China-Russia relations have a strong internal driving force and unique strategic value.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has outlined three defining features of China-Russia relations: enduring friendship, mutual benefit, and non-confrontation.
"Ours is a partnership not targeting third parties," he told Sputnik in an exclusive interview, stressing its role as a stabilizing force.
The ties, based on equality and trust, resist external interference and set a "modern model" for major-power relations in a turbulent world, he noted.
The Chinese foreign minister emphasized his country's consistent stance on resolving the
Ukraine crisis through dialogue and negotiation, stating that Beijing supports all peace efforts and noted Russia's openness to talks.
"Peace will not be achieved lying down; it must be worked for," he said, urging constructive steps toward a resolution.
China advocates for a fair, lasting peace agreement acceptable to all parties, ensuring stability in Eurasia and beyond, he added.
The diplomat also noted that China is ready to facilitate the peace process in Ukraine in cooperation with the international community, especially the countries of the Global South, Minister Wang said.
He stressed the need to address the root causes of the crisis through dialogue, aiming for a binding peace deal that ensures long-term stability.
"A truly lasting peace in Eurasia benefits the entire world," the official stated, reaffirming China’s commitment to multilateral diplomacy.
Wang called the recent efforts to
normalize Russia-US relations a stabilizing move in an uncertain world.
"Major powers must act as anchors in turbulent times," he said, highlighting Russia and America’s shared responsibility as UN Security Council members.
Improved Moscow-Washington ties could enhance
global strategic stability, Wang Yi noted, expressing cautious optimism.
Speaking about this year's 80th anniversary of victories in WWII, the minister urged China and Russia to defend historical truth against revisionism.
As key allies against fascism, "we need to stand firmly on the side of international justice, together with the peace-loving peoples of the whole world," Wang told Sputnik, condemning attempts to distort wartime sacrifices.
The senior Chinese diplomat called for global solidarity to preserve the memory of the Chinese people's victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese invaders, Russia's victory in the Great Patriotic War and the world anti-fascist war amid today's geopolitical shifts.
China's top diplomat
criticized US nuclear policies, urging Washington to reduce reliance on atomic weapons and cease actions undermining global security.
Wang opposed US "nuclear sharing," missile deployments near foreign borders, and missile defense expansion.
"We urge Washington to make solid efforts to reduce the risks of nuclear war and achieve the goal of denuclearization of the planet," Wang Yi said, warning against escalating strategic tensions.
