While Iran's willingness to engage in nuclear talks with the United States represents a potential opening for dialogue, significant obstacles remain, warned Dr. Darlington Ngoni Mahuku, a lecturer in the Department of Peace and Governance at Bindura University of Science Education. In an interview with Sputnik Africa, Dr. Mahuku described the negotiations as a "testing of the waters," emphasizing the deep-seated historical power dynamics between Tehran and Washington.Dr. Mahuku argued that “any potential bargaining will still be embedded in the historical power dynamics between the two states.” According to him, Washington “would have to respect Iran's sovereignty and interests rather than trying to bully it into accepting what Washington wants.”The expert also highlighted the role of BRICS nations in counterbalancing Western military alliances and promoting alternative security frameworks. “These countries are gradually asserting their independence and sovereignty, seeking to provide a multipolar world order,” he said.He further emphasized the potential impact of BRICS expansion on the Global South. “An expanded BRICS grouping could provide a more robust political and economic platform for promoting South-South cooperation, as espoused by dependency scholars or dependency theorists,” he said. “This will challenge the global North's dominance, fostering a more equitable world order.”

The nuclear negotiations between Iran and the US are among the most fraught diplomatic challenges of the 21st century. At the heart of the conflict lies Iran's nuclear program, which Western powers fear could be used to create nuclear weapons. Iran maintains its intentions are solely peaceful.
While Iran's willingness to engage in nuclear talks with the United States represents a potential opening for dialogue, significant
obstacles remain, warned
Dr. Darlington Ngoni Mahuku, a lecturer in the Department of Peace and Governance at Bindura University of Science Education. In an interview with
Sputnik Africa, Dr. Mahuku described the negotiations as a "testing of the waters," emphasizing the deep-seated historical power dynamics between Tehran and Washington.
“Iran's willingness to negotiate on the nuclear issue may be a starting point for dialogue, what I may refer to as testing the waters,” he said.
Dr. Mahuku argued that “any potential bargaining will still be embedded in the historical power dynamics between the two states.” According to him, Washington “would have to respect Iran's sovereignty and interests rather than trying to bully it into accepting what Washington wants.”
“Iran is accepting dialogue and participating in the negotiations with wide-open eyes, especially given that they may interpret this as some kind of geopolitical maneuvering,” he explained.
The expert also highlighted the role of BRICS nations in counterbalancing Western military alliances and promoting alternative security frameworks. “These countries are gradually asserting their independence and sovereignty, seeking to provide a multipolar world order,” he said.
“They have become key players in shaping alternative security architectures by fostering closer economic, political, and security partnerships or alliances. BRICS nations can effectively counterbalance Western influence and promote a more inclusive and representative global governance architecture,” Dr. Mahuku added.
He further emphasized the potential impact of BRICS expansion on the Global South. “An expanded BRICS grouping could provide a more robust political and economic platform for promoting South-South cooperation, as espoused by dependency scholars or dependency theorists,” he said. “This will challenge the global North's dominance, fostering a more equitable world order.”
