Roger Waters, a co-founder of British rock band Pink Floyd, said in an interview with RIA Novosti that there is a possibility of the United States ending its NATO membership and terminating its close partnership with Europe. Waters, furthermore, said that he believes that Trump's main motivation for his foreign policy is about spending. The US president said in an online address to the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 23 he would demand that European NATO allies raise their defense spending to 5% of the GDP, adding that some members did not even spend the required 2% on defense until he insisted that they do.Waters also noted that Trump should be taken seriously because he has "enormous power."The musician added that he is disappointed with Trump because he believes the president's only motivation is to earn more money, and it is especially visible in the case of Gaza. The singer, nevertheless, gave Trump credit for "not pretending otherwise."Trump said in early February that the United States would "take over" the Gaza Strip so that the territory could be developed into a "Riviera of the Middle East." Pink Floyd’s Waters Says US May Withdraw From NATO, Distance From Europe
UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik), Lenka White - Trump has mentioned many times that Europe has to step up its defense spending, as Washington does not want to fund its protection anymore. NATO countries agreed at a summit in Vilnius in 2023 to spend at least 2% of GDP on defense. Approximately 10 NATO countries spend less than 2% of their GDP on defense.
Roger Waters, a co-founder of British rock band Pink Floyd, said in an interview with RIA Novosti that there is a possibility of the United States ending its NATO membership and terminating its close partnership with
Europe. "It's possible that the United States will withdraw from NATO, from Europe anyway. Who knows? Nobody knows, because [US President Donald] Trump is pretty unpredictable," Waters said, when commenting on the Trump Administration's foreign policy.
Waters, furthermore, said that he believes that Trump's main motivation for his foreign policy is about spending.
