China Hopes for Sustainable, Long-Term Solution to Ukraine Crisis, FM Says
08:38 21.02.2025 (Updated: 11:45 21.02.2025) BEIJING (Sputnik) - The G20 meeting is taking place in the vibrant city of Johannesburg, South Africa, this Thursday and Friday. South Africa assumed the G20 presidency from Brazil on December 1 of last year, championing the theme "Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainable Development."
China hopes for a sustainable and long-term solution to the Ukrainian crisis and is ready to continue to play a constructive role in the political settlement, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a
meeting of G20 foreign ministers in Johannesburg.
"China supports all efforts aimed at achieving peace, including the recent consensus reached by Russia and the United States, and hopes that all parties concerned can find a sustainable and long-term solution that takes into account mutual concerns," Wang said as quoted by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on its website on Friday.
He said China is ready, in accordance with the needs of the parties concerned and taking into account the concerns of the international community, especially the countries of the
Global South, "to keep playing a constructive role in the political settlement of the crisis."
Aside from that, the Chinese authorities support the independent development of African countries and consider
external interference in their internal affairs unacceptable.
"China firmly supports African peoples in solving their problems and opposes external forces interfering in the internal affairs of African countries," Wang was quoted as saying.
He also expressed confidence that African states "have the wisdom, ability, and right to independently resolve their own issues," adding that the African Union's goal of "silencing the guns" will undoubtedly be achieved.
Wang Yi noted that the international community "should listen to Africa's voice, pay attention to its problems," support African countries, and make efforts for the peaceful development of the region.
