SPIMEX, Russia's largest commodity exchange, facilitates trading in various markets, including petroleum, oil, gas, metals, timber, fertilizers, agricultural products, and futures.
The Saint Petersburg International Mercantile Exchange (SPIMEX) may become a pilot platform for the creation of the BRICS
Grain Exchange, Alexey Gerasyuk, Vice President of the Saint Petersburg International Mercantile Exchange, said at a BRICS working group meeting in Cairo.
The meeting was organized by the
BRICS Competition Law and Policy Centre and the Competition Authority of Egypt, aiming to explore competition in food markets.

The creation of a grain exchange could open up new opportunities for BRICS countries in terms of forming a fair price for grain and
agricultural products, Gerasyuk said.
"The BRICS countries currently play a key role in the structure of Russian grain consumption: China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and Turkey account for 65% of Russian grain exports. The BRICS grain exchange project can initially be tested within the framework of existing trading markets and infrastructure. We can establish links between exchanges and countries to ensure fair prices for the agricultural market," he stated.
Russia's initiative to create the BRICS Grain Exchange was welcomed in the group's Kazan summit declaration in October 2024. The goal is to establish a BRICS grain trading platform and expand it to encompass other agricultural sectors.
