WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - In January, US President Trump threatened to impose 100% tariffs on all imports from BRICS if the bloc tried to launch a new BRICS currency or back any other currency to replace the US dollar.
US President Donald Trump said the BRICS' attempt to "undermine the dollar" could have dire consequences for America and the world.

"You know, that would be a terrible thing for our country. It'd be bad for the world. They wanted to undermine the dollar. The Six Nations got together. They want to undermine the dollar," Trump told reporters in the White House, speaking about BRICS members.

Earlier reports said the BRICS countries discussed the possibility of expanding settlements in national currencies and creating a common currency within the bloc but no final decisions were made on the issue.
