In the lead-up to his return to the US presidency in two weeks, Donald Trump has recently made claims to the territories of several nations. These include suggesting that Canada become a US state, renewing his demand for Denmark to sell Greenland, and reportedly discussing the future of the Panama Canal with Panamanian officials.Reactions to statements on Greenland:Danish King Frederik X, emphasizing the sovereignty over Greenland, changed the royal coat of arms so that it stresses the importance of the island. He said that “we are all united and each of us committed for the kingdom of Denmark. From the Danish minority in South Schleswig [...] and all the way to Greenland."German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed "incomprehension" regarding Trump's remarks, stating, "The inviolability of borders applies to every country, regardless of whether it’s to the east or west of us. It is important that we stand together on these issues and act as one."Sophie Prima, French Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade, argued that growing blocs represent a type of imperialism, which is reflected in Trump’s comments about territorial annexation. She emphasized that European partners must be more conscious, discard naivety, prepare, and rearm. She added that investments in defense, digital, and space sectors were essential to protect Europe and guarantee its strength in the face of these blocs.Reactions to Trump's territorial claim over the Panama Canal:Panama's Foreign Minister Javier Martinez-Acha asserted: "The sovereignty of our canal is not negotiable and is part of our history of struggle." He adding that "the only hands operating the canal are Panamanian and that is how it is going to stay."Reactions to Trump's comments on Canada joining the US:Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that there isn't "a snowball's chance in hell" that Canada would be a part of the US, highlighting that the two countries are already each other's largest trade and security partners. In response, Elon Musk, slated to hold a post under Trump, trolled Trudeau, stating, “Girl, you’re not the governor of Canada anymore, so it doesn’t matter what you say.”Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre states that “Canada will never be the 51st state. Period."

Donald Trump's second inauguration as the 47th President of the United States is scheduled for Monday, January 20, on the West Front of the US Capitol in Washington, DC. This will be the 60th US presidential inauguration.
In the lead-up to his
return to the US presidency in two weeks, Donald Trump has recently made claims to the territories of several nations. These include suggesting that Canada become a US state, renewing his demand for Denmark to sell Greenland, and reportedly discussing the future of the Panama Canal with Panamanian officials.
Reactions to statements on Greenland:
"As a very close ally of the United States, I think it's reasonable to welcome growing American interest. But this must be done with respect for the people of Greenland," Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said.
Danish King Frederik X, emphasizing the sovereignty over Greenland, changed the royal coat of arms so that it stresses the importance of the island. He said that “we are all united and each of us committed for the kingdom of Denmark. From the Danish minority in South Schleswig [...] and all the way to Greenland."
German Chancellor
Olaf Scholz expressed "incomprehension" regarding Trump's remarks, stating, "The inviolability of borders applies to every country, regardless of whether it’s to the east or west of us. It is important that we stand together on these issues and act as one."
"If you're asking me whether I think the United States will invade Greenland, my answer is no. But have we entered into a period of time when it is survival of the fittest? Then my answer is yes," French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated, stressing that "the European Union would let other nations of the world attack its sovereign borders, whoever they are."
Sophie Prima, French Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade, argued that growing blocs represent a type of imperialism, which is reflected in
Trump’s comments about territorial annexation. She emphasized that European partners must be more conscious, discard naivety, prepare, and rearm. She added that investments in defense, digital, and space sectors were essential to protect Europe and guarantee its strength in the face of these blocs.
Reactions to Trump's territorial claim over the Panama Canal:
Panama's Foreign Minister Javier Martinez-Acha asserted: "The sovereignty of our canal is not negotiable and is part of our history of struggle." He adding that "the only hands operating the canal are Panamanian and that is how it is going to stay."
Reactions to Trump's comments on Canada joining the US:
"President-elect Trump’s comments show a complete lack of understanding of what makes Canada a strong country. [...] We will never back down in the face of threats," Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly hinted that the Republican's statement was a threat.
Canadian Prime Minister
Justin Trudeau stated that there isn't "a snowball's chance in hell" that Canada would be a part of the US, highlighting that the two countries are already each other's largest trade and security partners.
In response, Elon Musk, slated to hold a post under Trump, trolled Trudeau, stating, “Girl, you’re not the governor of Canada anymore, so it doesn’t matter what you say.”
"No Canadian wants to join you. We are proud Canadians. [...] Your attacks will hurt jobs on both sides of the border. You come for Canadians’ jobs; Americans will pay a price," the leader of the New Democratic Party, Jagmeet Singh, said, addressing Trump directly.
Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre states that “
Canada will never be the 51st state. Period."
