MOSCOW (Sputnik) - On Saturday, German lawmaker Roderich Kiesewetter said on X that "there are increasing indications" that Scholz might travel to Moscow and meet Russian President Putin before February 23, while US President-elect Donald Trump's meeting with Putin had been scheduled for March. He did not provide any sources of information.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov refuted claims that meetings are being prepared between Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, as well as US President-elect Donald Trump.
"There are no such plans at the moment," Peskov told a Russian media outlet in response to a question about whether such contacts are indeed being prepared.
Furthermore, on Sunday, Scholz also denied allegations made by Kiesewetter of the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU) regarding his purported upcoming trip to Moscow, describing the rumors as "deeply indecent."
"This is a false statement," Scholz was quoted as saying at his party's meeting by the RND media group.

Meanwhile, Matthias Miersch, the secretary general of Scholz's Social Democratic Party (SPD), demanded that Kiesewetter delete his post and apologize.

"We have just had an incident which I consider quite problematic. The post by Deputy Kiesewetter about the chancellor's supposedly upcoming trip to Moscow is vile and insidious. I am in contact with [CDU Secretary General] Carsten Linnemann, and I demanded that Kiesewetter immediately delete this post and apologize," Miersch said at the presentation of the SPD election campaign.

In December, German newspaper Spiegel reported that there were rumors in the CDU that Scholz might go with a "peaceful mission" to Moscow in the coming days. The press service of the German government told RIA Novosti that media reports about the possible imminent visit of Scholz to Moscow were fiction.
