Ethiopia is preparing to host the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) on February 15-16, and the 46th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council from February 12-13.
Ethiopia is dedicated to the goals of the African Union and the principles of Pan-Africanism, Ambassador Muktar Mohamed Ware, Ethiopia's representative to Algeria, said in an interview with POA.
As the host nation, Ethiopia has been making significant preparations to welcome African leaders and international participants. Addis Ababa, the site of the AU headquarters and a hub for diplomatic activity in Africa, has undergone extensive infrastructural improvements to enhance its appeal to visitors. Ambassador Muktar highlighted these developments as evidence of Ethiopia’s ongoing commitment to maintaining its reputation as a center for Pan-African unity.

The ambassador described the summit as a reflection of Ethiopia’s historic role in supporting African independence and progress. He praised efforts led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and other national leaders to transform Addis Ababa into a world-class venue for international events. According to Muktar, these initiatives align with Ethiopia’s long-standing legacy of diplomacy and its vision for a united and prosperous Africa.
Ambassador Muktar expressed confidence that the upcoming summit would be a success, noting that it symbolizes Ethiopia’s continued dedication to fostering continental collaboration. He also underscored the importance of maintaining the country’s status as a diplomatic capital, a responsibility shared by current and future generations of Ethiopians.
