Earlier in November, the Nigerian military issued a warning about a new insurgent group called "Lakurawas" emerging in the northwest. It is reported that this group is entering the northwestern states of Sokoto and Kebbi from neighboring countries Niger and Mali.
The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, celebrated Christmas on Thursday with troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (“Redemption of the West,” translated from the Hausa language) and soldiers of the 8 Division,
Nigerian Army, stationed in Sokoto, local media reported.
In his address, General Musa firmly rejected the idea of establishing
foreign military bases in Nigeria, asserting the Nigerian Armed Forces’ ability to defend the country’s territorial integrity.
“The Nigerian Armed Forces have the capacity and capability to defend the territorial integrity of the country and address any local or foreign aggression. We will not allow an inch of Nigerian territory to be taken over by anyone to serve as a launching pad into our neighboring countries,” he was quoted as saying.
The CDS also issued a stern warning to those harboring bandits and criminal groups, declaring them accomplices in insecurity.
“Anyone who turns himself into a rat must know that a cat will surely run after him,” General Musa reportedly warned, urging citizens to unite against common enemies and refrain from supporting or sheltering criminal elements. “Anyone who harbors criminals is a potential target in this war against insecurity.”
Expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his strategic guidance, as well as to Sokoto state governor and the sultan of Sokoto, General Musa commended the unwavering support for the armed forces. He also charged the troops to remain disciplined, focused, and loyal as they carry out their constitutional responsibilities in a multi-agency environment.
