The French personnel and equipment deployed at the base will return to France in the coming days, the Chadian Ministry of Armed Forces noted.
The French armed forces officially handed over the first military base to the Chadian army on Thursday, the Chadian Ministry of the Armed Forces, Veterans and Victims of War said in a statement.
"Today, December 26, 2024, the General Staff of the Armed Forces informs […] that, following the departure of fighter jets to France and the withdrawal of the first French combat troops from Chad on December 20, French troops handed over the Faya base to the Chad National Army," read the statement.
On Thursday morning, a convoy of 54 vehicles left for the capital, N'Djamena, while a cargo plane took off from N'Djamena for France with 80 tonnes of supplies, the ministry noted.
"Chad and France continue to work closely together to ensure a rapid and respectful withdrawal of the French forces while respecting the sovereignty of each country," the statement added.
