BRICS is an intergovernmental organization established in 2006. Russia's 2024 presidency of BRICS began with the joining of new members. Adding to Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, it now includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, UAE and Saudi Arabia; the latter has not formalized membership but participates in BRICS meetings.
BRICS is a ray of hope for the countries that do not want to be dictated by the West, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and BRICS Sherpa Sergey Ryabkov told Russian media.
According to Ryabkov, the influence of the global majority is manifested in particular in the fact that when voting on many issues at the UN General Assembly and at other venues, BRICS countries, as Russia noticed, do not show the previous timidity in defending national views, including a counterweight to the Western influence.
On December 16-17, 2024, the Russian capital Moscow welcomed delegates from 17 countries for the 2nd edition of the Meet Global MICE Congress: BRICS Edition. Discussions focused on current trends and opportunities for stable development within the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) tourism industry, specifically within the BRICS framework. - Sputnik Africa, 1920, 17.12.2024
