Discussions between the Ethiopian and South African ministers of science, technology, and innovation, held in Ethiopia, aimed at reviewing past initiatives and charting a course for future cooperation based on an agreement previously signed between the two nations.
Ethiopian and South African ministers of science, technology, and innovation met to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in relevant sectors, the Ethiopian Ministry of Innovation and Technology said in a statement.
The Ethiopian side highlighted its focus on science, technology, innovation, and digitalization to implement a ten-year national plan for economic growth, while the South African side offered to share expertise in various areas, including space science, bio-economy, and artificial intelligence.

"They [the ministers] have pointed out that in the future they should focus on nanotechnology, space science and astronomy, material science and human resources development; the African agenda 2063 should be done by coordinating Africans and focusing on indigenous technology," the statement added.

The two countries have ongoing collaborative projects in space science, technology, and astronomy as well as bio and emerging technology, according to the statement.
"During the discussion, the two countries have reached an agreement to find and allocate a mutual fund to work together in the sector," the Ethiopian ministry noted.
