This year's commemoration featured diverse festivities that included a military parade and performances by a marching band orchestra, attended by high-profile government officials and representatives of other countries.
Ethiopia and South Africa have agreed to strengthen their "long-standing historical relations" in the military field and further extend mutually beneficial cooperation, specifically in the area of military education and training, the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) said in a statement.
Earlier this week, Head of ENDF's Education and Training Department Lieutenant General Yimer Mekonnen held a meeting with Director of Education and Development at the South African Defense Forces, Brigadier General Zoliswa Dauwa, who attended the 116th Army Day celebrations in Addis Ababa.
According to the statement, the two countries agreed to facilitate the sharing of their military modernization experiences, create a "favorable environment" for exchange, and work in collaboration in the field of education and training.

"Ethiopia and South Africa have reached an agreement that will create a favorable environment for the countries to exchange experiences as part of their efforts to modernize their armies," read the statement.

During the meeting, the South African official emphasized the significance of Ethiopia's contribution to South Africa's independence. She noted that the agreement to collaborate will benefit the armies of both nations in terms of "building a modern military force."
Dauwa also stated that South Africa aims to learn from Ethiopia's success and accomplishments in the area of peacekeeping missions and the modernization of its air force.
