Tanzania, renowned for its rich natural resources and cultural heritage, heavily relies on its tourism sector. Known for iconic locations like Serengeti National Park and Mount Kilimanjaro, the country attracts tourists from around the globe, including Russia.
Tanzania can become a more popular destination for Russian tourists, Maxim Reshetnikov, Russian minister of economic development, said during his visit to the African country.
Pindi Hazara Chana, Tanzanian minister of natural resources and tourism, noted that more than 1.5 million Russians have come to the country since January this year.
The Tanzanian minister underscored that the African country broke a record for the number of foreign tourists. She added that in 2024, Tanzania welcomed more than 1.5 million guests. Chana also pointed out that the island of Zanzibar, most famous among Russian tourists, was in fact the only beach destination without COVID-19 restrictions, so in 2021 the island was visited by more than 80 thousand tourists from Russia.

Earlier, in an interview with Sputnik, Russian Ambassador to Tanzania Andrey Avetisyan said that tour traffic between Moscow and Dodoma may increase in the near future due to regular requests from representatives of the tourism business on both sides. He noted that the Tanzanians want to return their resorts to the list of favorite destinations for Russians.
According to Avetisyan, the growth of tourist traffic will be facilitated by the work of the Russian payment system, MIR cards, on the territory of this African country.
