GEORGE TOWN, Malaysia (Sputnik) - The West stepped up sanctions pressure on Russia after the start of the special military operation in Ukraine in 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the West's long-term strategy of containing Russia was hurting the global economy instead.
Malaysia does not recognize unilateral sanctions against such countries as Russia and Iran, and aims to develop close relations with Russia, Malaysian Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Mohamad Sabu told Sputnik on Tuesday.
"Russia, as well as Iran, are the countries which are under sanctions, notably unilateral sanctions. We refuse to recognize unilateral sanctions," the minister said.
