MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Malaysia has become one of the countries that have received priority for joining the BRICS after the personal invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the summit of the association, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said.

"The important point is that we are one of the countries given priority due to the invitation extended to non-member nations," Anwar Ibrahim told the Malaysian Bernama agency on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).

The Eastern Economic Forum began on Tuesday and will run through Friday. It is being hosted by the Far Eastern Federal University in Russia's Pacific coast city of Vladivostok. Sputnik is the general information partner of the EEF 2024.
