South African Space Agency Supports Russian Initiative to Create BRICS Space Council

In October 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the country should more actively export space services to BRICS, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC), and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries and increase its presence in the international space market.
South Africa supported the Russian initiative to create a BRICS space council, Head of the South African National Space Agency (SANSA) Humbulani Mudau said at a meeting of heads of space agencies of the BRICS member countries in the Russian capital, Moscow.

Earlier, Putin expressed the need for Russia to boost the export of space services to BRICS, CIS, EAEC, and SCO countries and expand its presence in the global space market.
In late October 2023, Russian state space corporation Roscosmos CEO Yury Borisov noted that BRICS countries are expressing interest in Russia's Sfera (Sphere) multi-satellite orbital constellation project.
