Faye, who was inaugurated as Senegal's president on April 2, met with European Council President Charles Michel on Wednesday in Senegal's capital, Dakar.
Senegal's President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, said that he wants to reshape the West African country's relationship with the European Union to create a fairer global order that reflects today's realities.
"It is true that cooperation is dense and multifaceted, but together, we want to build a rethought, renovated partnership, fertilized by a shared vision of a fairer international order reflecting the realities of the modern world," the president stressed.
He added that the renovated partnership will be "capable of supporting the innovative dynamic we want to imprint on our relations."
For his part, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, claimed that today's world no longer reflects the world of the time when the Bretton Woods institutions and the UN were created, and "that is why the EU is working for greater justice and inclusion in multilateral forums."
"We hope to be a very engaged partner with our African friends through the African Union and the countries willing to act on this issue [...] And it is an opportunity, not simply through speeches, but rather through action, to show that we are making progress towards greater justice in international finance and in inclusiveness in terms of governance." he said.

The presidential election in Senegal took place on March 24, although it had been scheduled for February 25 but was postponed by the country's former leader, Macky Sall.
Faye won the presidential race with 54.28% of the vote, defeating former Prime Minister Amadou Ba, who received 35.79% of the vote.
As part of his promised electoral reforms, Faye announced after his inauguration that he would renegotiate oil and gas contracts. His electoral proposals also included abandoning the CFA franc in favor of a new national currency, suspending the fisheries' agreement with the EU, and reducing the powers of the president of the republic.
