South African President Congratulates Putin on Re-Election, Presidential Office Says
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - More than 700 international observers from 106 countries monitored the March 15-17 presidential election in Russia. They noted high voter turnout, transparency, and a high level of technological sophistication.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin on re-election, Ramaphosa's presidential office said in a statement.
"His Excellency President @CyrilRamaphosa has, on behalf of the Government and people of South Africa, congratulated the President of the Russian Federation, His Excellency Vladimir Putin, for his re-election to the position of President of the Russian Federation," the office said on X.
On Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin was
re-elected for a sixth term with 87.28% of the vote.
"President Ramaphosa further recalled the commitment of South Africa and the Russian Federation to mutual cooperation at the multilateral level, including the two countries’ common membership of the United Nations, the G20, BRICS and other multilateral bodies," the South African presidential office said.
It said the South African leader reiterated his country's support for international peace and security.
"President Ramaphosa concluded by indicating South Africa’s strong belief in the maintenance of international peace and security and that South Africa will continue to engage both the Russian Federation and Republic of Ukraine in search of lasting peace between the two neighbouring countries," it said.
