WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - Earlier, Russian Ambassador in Washington Anatoly Antonov said that the US has lost touch with reality, talking about the likelihood of a direct clash between Russian and American troops, adding that such rhetoric is unacceptable for a nuclear power.
The United States is using Ukraine as a weapon against Russia in hopes of weakening and depleting the country’s resources, Russian Ambassador in Washington Anatoly Antonov said in an interview with Sputnik.
“America has chosen Ukraine as a means, and if you like, a weapon, against our country,” Antonov said, when asked about the United States’ role in Ukraine. “The goal is to weaken, bleed out, and in the best case, divide Russia. And all means are acceptable for this.”
The United States is a participant in the conflict in Ukraine and has shifted its support from providing small arms to missile systems, which have been used to target Russian cities, Antonov added.
Furthermore, the US is starting to concede that Ukrainian forces are beginning to fall apart on the frontline, setting the stage for a Russian victory, according to Antonov.
“Recently, American officials have started to admit that the front is cracking. It is starting to crumble,” Antonov said, when asked about the United States’ role in the conflict in Ukraine. “It is recognized that the situation will worsen in the future. Kiev is close to a serious defeat.”
The United States and other NATO member states have concluded that they need to increase aid to Ukraine to prevent a Russian victory, Antonov said.
