The Russian government's green light to consider the contents of a draft military cooperation agreement with DR Congo paves the way for talks that could culminate in the signing of the deal, the central African country's government said in a statement.The government of the DRC noted that the draft agreement in question had been underway since 1999 at the initiative of both parties.At present, the statement added, Moscow and Kinshasa are not discussing the implementation of the agreement, and it has not yet been signed.The Russian government resolution said that the agreement provides for the organization of joint exercises and drills, participation and monitoring of exercises upon invitation of the relevant agencies. Earlier, in July 2023, on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with the DR Congo, the Russian Foreign Ministry recalled in its statement the potential for expanding Russia's trade and economic relations with the African country and the regular political dialogue between the two states.

13:03 08.03.2024 (Updated: 13:12 08.03.2024) On Tuesday, the Russian government announced in a resolution that was posted on the official portal of legal information that it had approved a draft agreement on military cooperation with the Democratic Republic of the Congo submitted by the Russian Defense Ministry in coordination with the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The Russian government's green light to consider the contents of a draft military cooperation agreement with DR Congo paves the way for talks that could culminate in the signing of the deal, the central African country's government said in a statement.
"The Russian government has barely given its approval to examine the content of this text. This opens the way to discussions which could lead to the possible signing of an agreement," the statement said.

noted that the draft agreement in question had been underway since 1999 at the initiative of both parties.
At present, the statement added, Moscow and Kinshasa are not discussing the implementation of the agreement, and it has not yet been signed.
The Russian government resolution said that the agreement provides for the organization of joint exercises and drills, participation and monitoring of exercises upon invitation of the relevant agencies.
It also envisages visits of warships and combat aircraft upon invitation or request, training of military personnel and other formats of cooperation.
Earlier, in July 2023, on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with the DR Congo, the Russian Foreign Ministry
recalled in its statement the potential for expanding Russia's trade and economic relations with the African country and the regular political dialogue between the two states.
