MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Last Thursday, the Senegalese president Sall confirmed that his term would end on April 2, but did not name a new date for the presidential election.
Outgoing Senegalese President Macky Sall said amid the crisis due to the postponement of the country's presidential election, that
he would present a bill on February 28 for a general amnesty for offenses related to political demonstrations in Senegal from 2021.
"Guided by the spirit of national reconciliation, this Wednesday I will present to the National Assembly in the Council of Ministers a bill for a general amnesty on the facts of political demonstrations that took place between 2021 and 2024," Sall said at a national dialogue event to determine the election date.
On December 16, the Senegalese Constitutional Court annulled Sall’s decree on rescheduling the presidential election. Sall said he had taken note of the decision and intended to hold consultations to organize the vote in the near future.
Last Monday, the country's constitutional council released the list of 19 candidates who were allowed to run in the presidential election. Last Friday, 16 of them refused
