Official Chadian Delegation Meets Russia's Defense, Diplomatic Officials in Moscow

Last week, a Nigerien delegation, led by the head of the government, Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine, arrived in Moscow to discuss relations between Russia and Niger. Now, Chad's interim President Mahamat Idriss Deby came to Moscow with his ministers to strengthen cooperation between the two nations.
Russian Deputy Defense Ministers Alexander Fomin and Yunus-bek Yevkurov met with Chad's Defense Minister Dago Yacouba on Wednesday to discuss bilateral and international issues.
The parties discussed the current state and prospects for the development of bilateral military and military-technical cooperation and also outlined plans for its implementation. They also exchanged views on regional security issues in Africa.

“The importance of developing Russian-Chadian relations in the defense sector and the need to intensify joint actions to stabilize the situation in the region were discussed. The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere, and it confirmed the readiness of the military departments of the Russia and Chad to further increase practical interaction,” the Russian Ministry of Defense reported.

Apart from the defense issues, this week, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov discussed with Chad's Minister of Foreign Affairs Mahamat Saleh Annadif, the development of the military-political situation in the Sahara-Sahel zone and ways to resolve conflicts in Africa, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
“At the same time, a confidential exchange of views took place on ways to resolve conflicts on the African continent, as well as the development of the military-political situation in the Sahara-Sahel zone,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Thus, Moscow and N'Djamena also reaffirmed their commitment to consolidating relevant peacekeeping efforts within the UN and other multilateral platforms.
The Russian Foreign Ministry added that the diplomats also discussed the development of bilateral relations, noting the importance of deepening the political dialogue between the countries.
On Tuesday, Chad's interim President Mahamat Idriss Deby arrived in the Russian capital, Moscow, for an official visit. The next day, he was received at the Kremlin by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The latter noted that relations between the two nations had developed significantly in recent years, with continued contacts between the foreign ministries and parliaments.
Furthermore, Moscow will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to Chad and is ready to double the number of scholarships for students from the African country, as the interest of young people is growing, Putin added.
Deby, in his turn, expressed hopes that the meeting would help strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
