The US is trying to provoke more conflicts because it can improve the state of the national economy, and the recent attacks on Yemen are one such attempt, Dr. Oscar van Heerden, Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for African Diplomacy and Leadership at the University of Johannesburg, told Sputnik Africa.Van Heerden added that he wouldn't be surprised if "one or two additional hotspots that involves the United States and the UK" will emerge. Moreover, if the number of US attacks on Houthis will increase, it will only escalate the war.On Thursday night, the military forces of the US and the UK carried out multiple airstrikes on four provinces across Yemen. Later, the US Air Forces Central declared that its operations against the Houthis in Yemen successfully targeted over 60 objectives in 16 different locations.Russia condemned the attack as a "pretext for further escalation of tension in the region," the ministry's spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova stated on Friday. The Houthis said in November they would strike any ship linked to Israel unless the Jewish state ends its invasion of the Gaza Strip. Weeks later, the United States announced the creation of a multinational operation with the stated goal of securing commerce in the Red Sea.

On Thursday night, the US and the UK carried out 23 airstrikes against Houthi positions in Yemen, provincial government officials told Sputnik. In response, the Houthis said they will attack ships linked to the US and UK, "and the US and UK will suffer heavy losses."
The US is trying to provoke more conflicts because it can improve the state of the national economy, and the recent
attacks on Yemen are one such attempt,
Dr. Oscar van Heerden, Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for African Diplomacy and Leadership at the University of Johannesburg, told
Sputnik Africa.
"As we know, the US is a war economy. When there's war, it's good for the economy," he said. "The saber-rattling that we are seeing with China around Taiwan, we are seeing this proxy war in Ukraine with Russia, and now they are picking a fight with the Yemeni rebels and so forth."
Van Heerden added that he wouldn't be surprised if "one or two additional hotspots that involves the United States and the UK" will emerge. Moreover, if the number of US attacks on Houthis will increase, it will only escalate the war.
Lastly, the researcher pointed out two-faced behavior of the US: it says it has no intention of expanding the war, but then launches attacks on Yemen without any mandate or consultation with other countries.
On Thursday night, the military forces of the US and the UK carried out multiple airstrikes on four provinces across Yemen. Later, the US Air Forces Central declared that its operations against the Houthis in Yemen successfully targeted over 60 objectives in 16 different locations.
Russia condemned the attack as a "pretext for further escalation of tension in the region," the ministry's spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova stated on Friday.
The
Houthis said in November they would strike any ship linked to Israel unless the Jewish state ends its invasion of the Gaza Strip. Weeks later, the United States announced the creation of a multinational operation with the stated goal of securing commerce in the Red Sea.
