On Thursday night, the US and the UK carried out 23 airstrikes against Houthi positions in four governorates across Yemen, provincial government officials told Sputnik.
The Houthis will strike at maritime shipping linked to the US and UK, Muhammad al-Buheyti, a member of the Houthi Politburo, told Sputnik.
"We only attacked ships associated with the Zionist entity [Israel]. However, today we will attack shipping linked to the US and UK and their interests [...] in response to their aggression against Yemen," al-Buheyti said.
He added that civil infrastructure and civilian homes were not damaged during the strikes.
"As far as I know, there is no damage," al-Buheyti noted.
Speaking about the
attack on Yemen, al-Buheyti emphasized that it was "absolutely unjustified," since the Houthis targeted only commercial vessels associated with Israel.
"We only want to put pressure [on Israel] to stop its genocide in Gaza and lift the blockade on the exclave. Our military operation in the Red Sea was ethical, even though we are in direct confrontation with Israel," the speaker told Sputnik.
According to al-Buheyti, the decision of the
US and the UK to attack the Houthis is not in the interest of the people of these countries and is not part of the strategic vision of these states.
"[...] This is rather a way to satisfy the electoral whims of [US President] Biden and [UK Prime Minister] Sunak, who have never realized the essence of this war. After all, its moral value is much higher than success on the battlefield," he pointed out.
Moreover, al-Buheyti believes that neither of the two countries have learned a lesson from their previous experiences in Yemen.
"They regretted attacking us earlier, and they will regret it now," he added.
Lastly, the politburo member assured that Yemen will continue the war against Israel, "and the US and UK, in turn, will suffer heavy losses."
"Yemen will win, and we are ready to confront the US and UK directly rather than indirectly fight their vassals in the region," al-Buheyti argued.
On Thursday night, the military forces of the US and the UK carried out 23 airstrikes on four provinces throughout Yemen. Later, the US Air Forces Central announced that its operations against the Houthis in Yemen successfully targeted over 60 objectives in 16 different locations.
Russia condemned the attack as a "pretext for further escalation of tension in the region," the ministry's spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova stated on Friday.
The Houthis declared in November that unless Israel ceases its invasion of the Gaza Strip, they would destroy any vessel with ties to the Jewish state. The United States declared the formation of a multinational operation weeks later, purportedly to safeguard trade in the Red Sea.
