In the summer of 2023, amid a crisis in the supply of grain and fertilizers to Africa, Russia promised to supply these goods free of charge to a number of African countries. Since the end of 2022, Uralchem Group, a Russian fertilizer company, has successfully delivered more than 134,000 tonnes of fertilizer to the continent.
A ship with a humanitarian cargo of 23,000 tonnes of fertilizers sent by the Uralchem fertilizer producer group for Zimbabwe arrived at the port of Beira in Mozambique, the port said.
The shipment was loaded onto a ship in the ports of Riga (Latvia) and Ghent (Belgium). From Beira, the fertilizers will be transported by land to Zimbabwe.
The delivery was reportedly "carried out in close cooperation with the UN World Food Program, which chartered the ship to transport the shipment as part of the efforts of the UN Conference on Trade and Development."
To help alleviate the "unprecedented" global food crisis and prevent agricultural setbacks in countries facing the threat of famine, Uralchem Group has pledged to provide around 300,000 tonnes of mineral fertilizers to developing countries, the company announced in late December.
Since the end of 2022, Uralchem Group, a Russian
