The joint operation between customs and police officers of the North African country was organized within the framework of the provisions of the 2022-2026 strategy to combat crime, in particular the illicit trafficking of hard drugs and psychotropic substances.
Moroccan police and customs officials in the south of the town of Dakhla searched a truck entering the kingdom and found 16 carefully concealed bundles of cocaine weighing a total of 362.9 kilograms, the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) said.
The security authorities added that the truck came from "a sub-Saharan African country" and was bound for Morocco, noting that the truck driver and his assistant had been arrested.
Authorities are determined to unravel the network of connections, both local and international, associated with this criminal activity and bring all perpetrators to justice, as stated by the DGSN.

Earlier in December, Morocco's National Drug Control Directorate intercepted 215.82 kilograms of cocaine at the Mediterranean port of Tangier.
A large shipment of coke was also intercepted by police in Casablanca in October. At that time, the catch, concealed in a cargo of imported frozen fish, amounted to 1.37 tons of cocaine.

The development of cocaine routes to and through Morocco may have been facilitated by long-established cannabis resin trafficking routes to Spain, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime reported in 2023.

In 2022, Kingdom authorities cited Brazil and Colombia as the predominant source countries for cocaine seized in 2021 and 2020.
