This major bust comes as Indian customs is working to fight narcotics trafficking by cracking down on their transit routes, customs officials noted. In their efforts to get drugs off of India's streets, customs officers at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi recently set 51.68 kg of heroin and cocaine ablaze.
Two Kenyan women were nabbed in India this week while attempting to illegally transport 510 million Kenyan shillings' (about $3.6 million) worth of cocaine, Delhi Customs representatives revealed.
On Thursday, customs personnel took an unidentified lady into custody who arrived in India via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, attempting to smuggle 253.7 grams of cocaine stashed in three bottles of whiskey.
At the airport in Delhi, customs officials reported that the drugs they had confiscated were worth 380 million Kenyan shillings (about $2.7 million). The female suspect is now under arrest for violating the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which gives the Indian government the authority to prosecute drug use and trafficking.

Another Kenyan woman was apprehended on Monday at the same airport by customs for possessing two bottles of whiskey that contained dissolved cocaine, valued at 130 million Kenya shillings ($925,596). Details on the 25-year-old female suspect, who was also on her way to India from Addis Abeba, have not yet been made public.
Earlier this week, Indian authorities revealed that methamphetamine was seized from a Tanzanian citizen traveling from Uganda via Dubai. One hundred capsules containing the illicit drug were reportedly ingested by the suspect.
