BUENOS AIRES (Sputnik) – Argentines voted in the second round of the presidential election on November 19. The winner was Javier Milei, a self-described libertarian and member of the La Libertad Avanza alliance.
Argentina is not planning to sever diplomatic relations with China, Brazil or Russia, as there must be serious reasons to take such a step, Diana Mondino, President-elect Javier Milei's adviser who has been confirmed to be the country's next foreign minister, said on Wednesday.
"Some say that we are going to sever ties with Brazil and China. These are the things that have no meaning or logic [...] There is no severing or changing of relations [...] There could be no severing of [diplomatic relations] with Russia as well. There has to be an extremely serious situation for an ambassador to be recalled," Mondino told Argentine broadcaster TN.
Milei, for his part, said that although the new Argentine administration would not cut ties with those countries, it also would not further develop ties with them.

Russia Respects Results of Presidential Elections in Argentina
"I have indicated whose ally I am. I am an ally of the United States, Israel and the West. Moreover, I have indicated that I would not promote relations with autocratic regimes, with communists, with those who do not respect peace, or with those who do not have democratic values. At the same time, entrepreneurs have complete freedom to trade with whomever they want," the president-elect was quoted by TN as saying.
On Sunday, far-right libertarian Milei won the run-off presidential election in Argentina. He is scheduled to officially take office on December 10. During the presidential campaign, Milei spoke against joining BRICS and cooperating with China, Brazil and Russia, and advocated a foreign policy oriented toward Israel and the US.
