Chinese state-owned automobile manufacturer Chery is the ninth-largest car manufacturer in China and has been one of the country's largest exporters of passenger cars since 2002.
Chinese company Chery enters the Algerian market with a range of models that will be available before the end of the year. They have been designed with local needs in mind, at affordable prices ranging from US$14,700 to US$37,000.
The public authorities thus wish to launch automobile production in Algeria, bringing "added value to the national industry and ensure quality vehicles at reasonable prices", indicated the Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun.
In fact, prices for new cars will range between $1.99 and $5 million dinars (between $14,700 and $37,000 US dollars). Chery offers 15 options among 7 models and plans to market 11,000 vehicles before the end of 2023. An increase to 50,000 units is planned for the following year.
The Auto Leader company, official representative of the Chery brand in Algeria, plans to open a factory in Bordj Bou Arreridj [Algerian city], with a production capacity of 24,000 units per year, said the general director cited by APS. According to him, in the third year the factory will increase to 100,000 vehicles, with the aim of creating a national export platform.
Since 2002, Chery has been the leading Chinese brand in exporting passenger vehicles. Recently, in May 2023, it achieved its highest monthly export record of 74,056 vehicles. The company has vehicle assembly and component manufacturing facilities in mainland China, and it also assembles its vehicles overseas to cater to export markets.
