Morocco Earthquake: Children Climb Mountains to Help in Remote Areas

On September 8, Morocco was struck by an earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale. Although its epicenter was near the city of Marrakech, neighboring areas were also affected. Sputnik's correspondents are following the efforts of Moroccans to help the remote affected areas.
Children as young as ten years old ride mules and donkeys through mountainous terrain to places that are inaccessible by car.
In Morocco's
earthquake-ravaged highlands, where neither cell phone signals nor roads are accessible, it is not only adults but also children who actively participate in the crucial task of providing aid. This comes in parallel with Moroccan authorities' efforts to transport essential supplies to mountainous areas around the clock by plane and truck.
In the province of Ouarzazate in Morocco, avalanches have made it impossible for cars to reach the affected areas, leaving victims stranded. The local authorities have mobilized military aircraft to conduct rescue and humanitarian operations. However, the determination to help goes far beyond official efforts. Compassionate individuals have also arrived in the region on donkeys and mules, demonstrating solidarity and readiness to assist those in need. These people brought as much help on the backs of their animals as each person could take on. A peculiar caravan of adults and children begins its ascent from the last collection point that vehicles with aid packages from different regions are able to reach.
At such a young age, ten-year-old children are confronted with the harshness of reality. They toil tirelessly from dawn till dusk, working to secure tents, blankets, medicine, and all essential supplies for
those in need.
The Sputnik correspondent discovered them at an altitude exceeding 1,400 meters, bravely navigating treacherous roads towards the villages above, where their much-needed assistance is eagerly anticipated.
