Putin Expresses Condolences to King of Morocco Over Consequences of Earthquake

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center said earlier in the day that a magnitude 6.9 earthquake occurred in Morocco 77 kilometers (48 miles) southwest of the city of Marrakesh with a population of 839,000 people.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed condolences to King Mohammed VI of Morocco over the tragic consequences of the devastating earthquake, the Kremlin website said.
"Your Majesty, please accept my sincere condolences on the tragic consequences of the devastating earthquake in the central parts of your country," the statement said.
Putin noted that Russia shares the grief of the friendly people of Morocco. He asked to convey words of condolence and support to the families and friends of the victims, as well as wishes for a quick recovery to all those injured as a result of the natural disaster.
Earlier the Al-Arabiya broadcaster reported citing data from the Moroccan Interior Ministry that the earthquake claimed 632 lives and injured 329 people.
According to Moroccan media, it is the most powerful earthquake to rock the kingdom in a while.
Jolts were reportedly recorded in Marrakech, Rabat, Casablanca, Agadir and Essaouira, with many residents of these cities taking to the streets fearing the collapse of their homes.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the opening session of the G20 summit, expressed condolences over the loss of lives in Morocco.
