During his ongoing African tour, Wang Yi, director of the Chinese Communist Party's foreign affairs office, visited Ethiopia to promote bilateral cooperation. He stressed the importance of relations with Addis Ababa for Beijing and promised assistance in developing its economy.
While maintaining cooperation with Africa, China never interferes in the internal affairs of other countries and never imposes political conditions, stated the head of Chinese diplomacy, Wang Yi, while on a working visit to Ethiopia, a Chinese news outlet reported.
Mr. Wang also reiterated that China cherishes its "traditional friendship" with Ethiopia, and strongly supports the country's reconstruction and economic recovery. Beijing is ready to further exploit the potential of bilateral cooperation and "help Ethiopia advance industrialization, achieve agricultural modernization and pursue green and low-carbon development," according to the diplomat.

China wishes to play a positive role in relieving Ethiopia's debt burden, he added.
According to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, the African nation, for its part, adheres to the one-China principle, supports Beijing's position in international affairs, actively participates in cooperation under China's Belt and Road Initiative and is ready to work closely with its Asian partner to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields.
The prime minister described China as Ethiopia's great and reliable friend.
Wang is scheduled to visit several African countries, including Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa, where he will take part in the 13th meeting of BRICS National Security Advisors and High Representatives, currently chaired by Pretoria.
