In Africa, the prices of air fuel have been indicating a decreasing trend, compared to other regions of the world. In 2021, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the International Air Transport Association had nevertheless pointed to the African continent as the region with the highest fuel prices for air transport.
The African continent seems to be experiencing a drop in air fuel prices over the past two years.
Consequently, as of July 16, prices on aircraft fuel are chiefly hovering at $0.526 per liter in most African countries, according to data from the specialized Jet-A-1-fuel.com website.
This is the lowest price in comparison with other regions of the world. In the United States, this rate is $0.555 per liter, in Europe it is $0.538 per liter. In some Latin American countries, this indicator reaches $0.558 per liter, which is the highest rate in the world.

Trend towards lower prices

Current prices suggest that the situation has improved in Africa over the past two years, the Ecofin agency reveals.
At the end of June, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) had made public the results of a survey it had conducted in June 2021 at several airports, including 33 in Africa, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The African continent was then named the region where the cost of airplane fuel continued to be the highest, at about $0.678 per liter, with a gap of almost 20% compared to the countries of North America.
The air transport market in Africa remains fractional, but air traffic is expected to double by 2040, again according to IATA.
