John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress, who previously served one term as president of Ghana (2012-2017), won the country's presidential election on December 7 with 56.55% of the vote, according to Ghana's electoral commission. His closest rival was Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia of the now-former ruling New Patriotic Party.

Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama appointed chartered accountant and Parliament leader Cassiel Ato Forson as finance minister, according to a presidency statement on Thursday.

Following his inauguration on Tuesday, President Mahama is quickly assembling his team to tackle economic issues and job creation, appointing John Abdulai Jinapor as energy minister and Dominic Akuritinga Ayine as attorney general and justice minister.
