The intention of the EU countries to abandon Russian energy by 2027 is an irrational approach; Budapest will not go along with this, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"This approach has nothing to do with physics. This issue has nothing to do with economic competitiveness. This issue has nothing to do with the 'green transition.' This is purely political commitment," Szijjarto said.
According to the minister, Hungary is happy with cooperation with Russia and has not received better offers, so it does not see the point in refusing Russian gas.
Szijjarto earlier said that the beneficiary of the recession in Europe was the United States. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban also pointed out that Europe was losing by refusing Russian energy in favor of American energy since it was forced to overpay for them 5 to 10-fold. According to Orban, Europe should ask its "American friends" questions about who is winning in this situation.
Moscow has stated more than once that the West had made a serious mistake by refusing to buy hydrocarbons from Russia; it will fall into a new, stronger dependence, caused by higher prices. Moscow also stated that those who refused were still buying and would buy Russian oil and gas more expensively through intermediaries.
