The enlargement of the Daesh* terrorist group is having a negative influence on security in the Lake Chad Basin, Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Anna Evstigneeva said on Monday.
"We see the concern of coastal states of the Gulf of Guinea. The reinforcement of the Daesh [aka Islamic State] in Western Africa is having a negative impact on the security situation in the states of the Lake Chad Basin region," Evstigneeva said at a UN Security Council meeting on the situation in Central Africa and the activities of the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa.
Russia is worried by the destructive actions of groups such as Boko Haram, she added.
The country also stands "ready to continue to deliver comprehensive support to our Central African Republic friends in the establishment of peace and security in the country," Evstigneeva said.
The presence of Russian military instructors has enabled CAR to protect its citizens and stabilize the situation in the country in a historically short time, Russian Ambassador in Bangui Alexander Bikantov told Sputnik earlier this week.
Moscow and Bangui are continuing talks on the establishment of a Russian military base in CAR, Bikantov said.
