Opposition in Senegal wants to introduce a new currency if its candidate wins the upcoming presidential election in the country, local media reported.
According to Bassirou Diomaye Faye's electoral manifesto, he also wishes to review the working conditions of enterprises in the mining and energy sectors of the country, the media noted.
"We are convinced that full independence cannot be achieved without control over the economy, livestock, fisheries and agriculture, and we are fully committed to achieving food, digital, financial, energy and scientific sovereignty," he was quoted by the media as saying.
Opposition figure Ousmane Sonko, who has been jailed since July for "incitement to insurrection" and barred from running in the presidential vote, supported Diomaye's candidacy, urging his supporters to vote for him in the presidential elections.
