South Africa's former Olympic runner Oscar Pistorius has been released from prison on parole, media said.
He reportedly served more than half of his sentence for shooting his 29-year-old girlfriend, Steenkamp on Valentine's Day 2013, whom, he said, he had mistaken for an intruder.
His initial five-year conviction was extended several times on appeal to 13 years and five months. Being released on parole, Pistorius is required to undergo therapy for anger and gender-based violence issues, refrain from alcohol and other substances, and complete community service, the outlet revealed.
"An elevated public profile linked to Pistorius does not make him different from other inmates nor warrant inconsistent treatment," the department of correctional services was quoted as saying.
Pistorius is famous for being the first double-amputee who participated at the 2012 Olympic Games. In 2004, he broke the 200m world record at the Athens Paralympics. At the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games, he won the 100m, 200m and 400m sprint titles.
