The Senegalese Navy has announced the seizure of 690 kilograms of cocaine that was en route to Europe on a super speedboat.
The vessel was intercepted by the deep-sea patrol boat 220 kilometers off the coast of Senegal, resulting in the arrest of the 5 Spaniards on board, the media added.
In late November, the Senegalese Navy revealed that it had seized three tons of pure cocaine off the coast of the capital, Dakar, one of the largest seizures in the country's history.
On December 16, mariners intercepted the same amount of cocaine in southern Senegalese waters, 425 kilometers off the coast. The minimum value of the seizure was 126 billion CFA francs ($211 million), the navy announced at the time.
According to UNODC, the amount of cocaine seized in the Sahel is increasing dramatically: from 13 kg per year between 2015 and 2020 to over 35 kg in 2021 and 863 kg in 2022.
