Nigeria Launches Antitrust Probe into Meta*, Google, X Over News Content, AI Training
President Bola Tinubu has directed Nigeria's competition regulator to investigate major technology companies over alleged anti-competitive practices and unauthorized use of news content, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) announced Monday.
According to the FCCPC, it would investigate:
▪ market dominance;
▪ anti-competitive conduct;
▪ unauthorized commercial use of copyrighted news content;
▪ use of journalistic material to train generative AI models.
