Andrei Stenin Press Photo Contest opens in Tanzania
The international road show of the Andrei Stenin Press Photo Contest continues on the African continent, this time in Tanzania.
For the second time, the exhibition in the country’s largest city, Dar es Salaam, is being held with support and at the venue of the Russian House (a branch of the Federal Agency for the CIS Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation, or Rossotrudnichestvo). The free display is open to visitors until June 15.
The venue showcases works by participants from Indonesia, China, Thailand, Bangladesh, Myanmar, India, Brazil and Russia. The key topics covered include cultural diversity, environment, and social issues.
Head of the Rossotrudnichestvo branch in Tanzania Alexander Yevstigneyev said at the exhibition launch: “This year’s exhibition is opening around an important holiday. The continent marks Africa Day. Yes, the Andrei Stenin Contest finalists created their works in different countries but Africa is certainly featured. Our main goal is to show the diversity and broad variety of the world, and that each country has its joys, triumphs and problems. The job of a true professional photographer is to capture this in their work so that in any part of our planet, any person could see it and seize the meaning. In my opinion, the main requirement here is honesty. Andrei Stenin was that honest professional. He gave his life for his honest work.”
The road show has already travelled to Serbia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Next, it will visit countries in Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.
About the contest
The Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest was organized by the Rossiya Segodnya media group under the auspices of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO. Its goal is to support young photographers and raise public awareness of challenges in modern photojournalism. It is a platform for young photographers who are sensitive and open to everything new and wish to tell stories about people and events around us.
