Africa’s Negative Narrative Must Shift Toward Positivity and Economic Empowerment: Mindset Specialist

Africans focus too much on pain and problems, drowning out progress, said Patrick Achitabwino, a mindset change specialist from Malawi.

"Many of the stories are about suffering, HIV, poverty – less coverage of what progress is being made," he told Sputnik Africa on Africa Day.

He urged moving beyond "crying and a litany of worries" and stressed economic empowerment as the foundation of true unity. "Anti‑immigration sentiment arises because economies are strained, not because of inherent hostility."

"Africa must start to own her own economy—because when we own it, we can create jobs," he concluded. "Africa now has no shortage of youth with vast knowledge. Some of the world’s top innovators are in Africa. Now is the time to be proud of Africa."
