Ethiopia's Amhara Region Produces $246.1 Mln in Minerals Through Import Substitution in Nine Months: State Media

By numbers, as stated by the media citing the Amhara Region Mining Resource Development Bureau:
◾169 mining projects licensed
◾Nearly $13 million earned from gold and opal exports
◾Over 33,000 jobs created
The region's mineral resources are being developed through modern and artisanal mining backed by geological studies, with 18 university-led exploration projects completed and handed over this fiscal year, the bureau's PR director Zinaw Abebe told the media.
According to Abebe, the bureau has achieved:
▪ 2.4 million+ tonnes of total minerals (gypsum, limestone, silica sand, coal, marble, granite) extracted;
▪ 18,500+ kg of raw and value-added opal and gold supplied to the central market;
▪ geological mapping of 25% of the Amhara region.
