Senegal's President Faye Appoints Economist as New Prime Minister
Ahmadou Alhaminou Mohamed Lô, a 60‑year‑old economist, has been named Senegal’s new head of government, the presidency announced.
🟠 Lô spent most of his career at the Central Bank of West African States and later oversaw structuring ties between local banks and foreign investors in Senegal’s oil and gas sectors.
🟠 He joined the government in 2024 as minister secretary general and, in 2025, was put in charge of monitoring the national transformation agenda "Senegal 2050."
🟠 Local media describe him as a technocrat close to both the current president and his predecessor, Ousmane Sonko.
In a related development, Senegal's parliament elected former PM Sonko as its speaker.
