#viral | Scientists Hatch 26 Chicks From 3D-Printed Egg

Chicks of varying ages were born from a 3D-printed eggshell-shaped structure.

The goal: US-based Colossal Biosciences aims to produce genetically modified chicks of the extinct moa bird — as a first step toward using the same technology to "revive" other extinct species in the future.

The challenge: Moa eggs are 80 times larger than chicken eggs, making it impossible to use a live bird as a surrogate mother and carry them to term.
