Conflict & Mistrust Threaten DRC Ebola Response Amid 900+ Suspected Cases: WHO
In Ituri Province—home to nearly 5 million people—ongoing conflict, violence, and insecurity are worsening the Ebola outbreak.
These factors displace people and hinder contact tracing and early treatment efforts, World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.
🟦WHO and its health partners maintain a presence across Ituri, including in highly insecure and hard-to-reach areas, he noted. There, communities are battling not only Ebola but also many other diseases.
To help, WHO partners are now focusing on:
▪ Maternal, reproductive, newborn, child, and adolescent healthcare
▪ Treatment of severe acute malnutrition with complications
▪ Delivery of medical supplies
▪ Sustaining routine immunization
▪ Offering community health services
